The Pinnacle Ramin is an exciting new bike for 2013, featuring big, fast rolling 29” wheels on a tough and versatile hardtail platform with T6-6066 series triple-butted aluminium frame and 100m front suspension. Like all of the Pinnacle range, the Ramin was developed by our in-house designer James Olsen who has spent many hours out on the trails with just his Ramin and notebook for company, scrutinizing and tweaking every detail.
James describes the Ramin as being a bike built for those who love the handling of a good trail bike, whilst being equally capable on the climbs without having to adopt the more aggressive, head-down XC race bike position.
The Ramin is a great all-rounder and the perfect introduction for someone who is interested in a 29er but wants a fun bike rather than a pure cross-country race machine. Indeed, it could be deemed the Pinnacle Iroko’s younger big brother, inheriting its attitude with a bigger set of…wheels, providing advantages in some situations that many riders appreciate. More grip, more momentum and overall comfort, and a little less BMX-y in feel.
Mountain bike wheels have changed over the last few years and big wheels have become more widely used with the introduction of 29” and 650b wheels. The bigger wheels shallow angle of curve rolls over uneven terrain more easily for a smoother feel and faster ride, absorbing the bumps with ease. Add to that a slacker than average head angle with a longer-rake fork and lower bottom bracket to help create a confident and stable ride, offering improved control and ability.
There are three models available: the Ramin 1 which is an ideal cross-over bike for novice mountain bikers or cyclists looking for a rugged £500 commuter. There’s then the mid-range Ramin 2 for £750 which features better Rockshox XC32 fork, 9 speed Shinmano parts (27 gears) and upgraded M505 disc brakes for a more capable ride. Finally the fully equipped Ramin 3 which gets a tapered-steerer, bolted axle Rockshox Recon Gold TK fork for added stiffness up front and Shimano’s Deore disc brakes, and a 10-speed Deore/SLX shifting package to keep it all under control. It’s a lot of bike for the price, but it’s the ride that we think may surprise you the most.
